Cohere is the leading security-first enterprise AI company. We build cutting-edge foundation AI models and end-to-end products that are designed to solve real-world business problems.
We’re training and deploying frontier models for enterprises who are building AI systems. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI and we are looking for folks that want to be part of that.
We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are all passionate about their craft.
We are a global technology company co-headquartered in Toronto and San Francisco, with key offices in London, New York City, Montreal, Seoul, Germany and Paris. Join us!
Why This Role?
We’re hiring a People Business Partner to help scale Cohere through a major phase of growth.
This is not a traditional “policy and process” HRBP role. We’re looking for commercially minded People partners who want to work closely with leaders and teams to help build high-performing organisations inside one of the world’s leading AI companies.
Cohere is scaling quickly across a globally distributed environment with both remote employees and physical offices. We need PBPs who are energised by ambiguity, growth, and helping leaders operate more effectively as the company scales.
You’ll partner closely with leaders across different functions on organisational effectiveness, leadership capability, performance, talent strategy, and team health during a period of intense scale.
We’re still evolving parts of our People infrastructure and operating model, so this is a strong fit for someone who enjoys building, improving processes, and operating in environments where not everything is fully mature yet.
You’ll thrive here if you:
Enjoy partnership — building strong relationships with leaders and teams
Operate with ownership — strong judgment, accountability, and reliability
Balance standards + empathy — supportive while maintaining high expectations
Enjoy ambiguity — energised by fast-moving, evolving environments
Solve problems pragmatically — especially organisational and leadership challenges
Communicate clearly — especially in written, asynchronous environments
Move fluidly — between strategy and hands-on execution
Collaborate well — low ego and strong team orientation
Areas you’ll typically support:
Org design — scaling teams and organisational structures
Leadership support — coaching managers and supporting leadership capability
Talent strategy — performance, retention, and talent discussions
Team effectiveness — organisational health and engagement
Employee experience — onboarding, retention, and team support
People team scale — helping evolve the broader People function
We’re likely to be a strong fit if you:
Have relevant experience — typically 4–8 years in HRBP / People Partner roles
Understand growth environments — startup, scale-up, or hyper growth experience
Know business partnership — experience partnering closely with leaders or functional organisations
Have global exposure — supported distributed organisations across multiple countries or regions
Communicate exceptionally well — especially in written environments like Slack and docs
Operate strategically — able to move between day-to-day support and broader organisational thinking
This is a rare opportunity to help shape the leadership culture and operating environment of a fast-growing AI company during a defining scaling moment.
Note: This role is intended for candidates open to a London hybrid working arrangement due to the leadership teams supported by the role. We may post future roles at this level that are remote.
If this role feels exciting but slightly ahead of your current scope or experience level, we’d also encourage you to explore our People Business Partner opening. We’re hiring across multiple levels of the People team and would love to stay connected with exceptional talent.
If some of the above doesn’t line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply!
We value and celebrate diversity and strive to create an inclusive work environment for all. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities. Should you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, please submit an Accommodations Request Form, and we will work together to meet your needs.
We may use AI-enabled tools to screen and assess applicants against the criteria for this position. This helps our recruiters identify potentially qualified candidates, but it doesn't limit the applications our recruiters may review or consider.
