We’re looking for a senior, enterprise-focused communications leader to define and drive how OpenAI shows up to businesses, from large enterprises to high-growth startups, and to build the communications strategy that brings that story to life across channels.
The mandate is to lead communications for Business, including shaping press narratives, driving proactive media engagement, and building credibility with business, technical, and industry stakeholders. You will set the strategy and build the system, including hiring or partnering for social and content execution where needed.
You will serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and play a critical role in ensuring communications is not a service function, but a driver of business outcomes.
In this role, you will:
Lead communications strategy for OpenAI’s B2B business, shaping how we communicate value to customers, partners, and the broader market across industries
Own press narrative and media engagement, building and maintaining strong relationships with top-tier business, technology, and trade press, and proactively driving coverage that advances OpenAI’s enterprise positioning
Translate complex product and platform capabilities into clear, credible enterprise narratives that resonate with technical buyers, executives, and decision-makers
Operate within a pod-based model, partnering closely with other comms leads and marketing counterparts to deliver a unified, coordinated marcomms strategy for your area
Ensure tight alignment with Marketing, co-developing integrated campaigns, launches, and storytelling that span earned, owned, and social channels
Advise senior leadership, including the CMO (Business), CRO, and other senior Business leadership, on positioning, messaging, and how to proactively shape industry conversations
Build and scale the function, including hiring or structuring support across social, content, and programmatic communications as needed
Drive proactive storytelling, increasing the volume and consistency of high-quality, positive narratives about how OpenAI is transforming work and business
Partner deeply with customers and GTM teams to bring real-world use cases and impact to life across industries and regions
You might thrive in this role if you have:
15+ years of communications experience, with deep expertise in enterprise / B2B communications in high-growth technology environments
Strong press instincts and relationships, with a track record of shaping narratives and landing impactful coverage with business and industry media
Experience engaging enterprise stakeholders, including CIOs, CTOs, developers, and line-of-business leaders, with the ability to tailor messaging across segments
Demonstrated ability to operate as a strategic advisor to senior executives, not just an executor of comms plans
Experience working in highly cross-functional, matrixed organizations, with strong instincts for alignment across product, GTM, and marketing
Ability to build and scale teams, including structuring complementary capabilities such as social and content under a broader comms strategy
Sound judgment in high-velocity, high-scrutiny environments, with the ability to prioritize, triage, and lead through ambiguity
Balance of strategic thinking and execution, with a bias toward action and measurable impact
This role reports to the Chief Marketing Officer, Business and is based in San Francisco, CA.
