Job Summary
As our first hire on the technical accounting and financial reporting team, you will be a key architect behind some of our most critical accounting initiatives. From implementing our revenue, inventory, and warranty policies, to building our external financial reporting capability from 0 to 1, we are looking for a driven and talented accounting lead to execute on some of our most important day-to-day financial operations.
You will work closely with the leadership across go-to-market, finance, and legal to build out our deal desk playbook to execute novel structures and ensure the company can continue to scale with accurate, compliant, and well-supported financial statements. This is a high-trust role that will require end-to-end ownership over key strategic projects. We’re looking for the type of individual that is constantly looking to improve existing processes and do deep research on high leverage projects.
Key Responsibilities
Own end-to-end revenue accounting policies under ASC 606 (or IFRS 15), including review of complex contracts, multiple performance obligations, variable consideration, and non-standard deal terms
Partner with Go-to-market, Legal, and the Deal Desk function to assess revenue treatment for new products, bundled offerings, and non-standard contracts before deals close
Ensure Netsuite’s Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) is implemented in accordance with technical guidance and compliant with all internal and external accounting standards
Research and document the company's position on complex and emerging accounting issues (e.g., R&D NRE, leases, stock-based compensation, debt/equity instruments, impairments)
Draft technical memos and accounting position papers for review by controller and external auditors
Provide guidance on Inventory, Cost of Sales, Warranty Technical accounting guidance and serve as the internal subject matter expert on technical accounting matters
Lead preparation of external financial statements and footnote disclosures (10-K/10-Q if public, or audited financials if private)
Ensure compliance with GAAP/IFRS, SEC reporting requirements (if applicable), and internal accounting policies
Sign-off on the quarterly and annual close process as it relates to revenue and technical accounting areas
Own Equity related financial reporting: tool selection, data conversion, financial reporting related to Equity
Build, manage, and develop a team of revenue and technical accounting professionals
Strengthening internal controls (SOX, if applicable) related to revenue and financial reporting
You may be a good fit if you have
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant time in public accounting (Big 4 preferred) and/or a corporate technical accounting/revenue role
Deep expertise in ASC 606 and broad technical accounting knowledge across multiple areas of GAAP
Experience with SEC reporting and public company requirements strongly preferred
Prior people management experience, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex accounting concepts for non-accounting stakeholders
Strong candidates may also have experience with
Experience building the technical accounting and financial reporting function from 0 to 1 at a high-growth, venture-backed company.
Experience in inventory accounting, manufacturing cost accounting, and hardware revenue recognition, including warranty reserves, NRE, and complex customer contracts.
