Make Work Better—Across the Enterprise
Interstates is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to build and advance enterprise process improvement capabilities across the organization. In this role, you’ll work with executive leaders, operational teams, process owners, subject matter experts, and technology partners to improve how work gets done across functions and locations.
You’ll turn complex business challenges into practical, scalable solutions that improve quality, efficiency, predictability, employee experience, and business performance. This is a highly collaborative role for a strategic thinker who can move comfortably between high-level business priorities, detailed process analysis, and hands-on implementation.
What You’ll Do
• Develop and maintain an enterprise process improvement framework aligned with Interstates’ strategic objectives.
• Identify opportunities to improve cross-functional processes, reduce waste, eliminate duplication, and strengthen handoffs.
• Partner with leaders and process owners to understand business needs, customer expectations, pain points, and desired outcomes.
• Map current-state processes and analyze bottlenecks, variation, rework, delays, failure points, and control gaps.
• Use data, root-cause analysis, Lean principles, and structured problem-solving to identify improvement opportunities.
• Build business cases, recommendations, and prioritized improvement portfolios for leadership decision-making.
• Design future-state processes that improve efficiency, quality, consistency, scalability, and stakeholder experience.
• Develop standard work, role definitions, decision frameworks, process controls, and practical documentation.
• Establish meaningful performance measures, targets, ownership, reporting expectations, and review routines.
• Partner with IT and digital teams to evaluate automation, workflow, dashboards, alerts, and other technology-enabled solutions.
• Facilitate workshops, process-mapping sessions, pilots, and design discussions with the people who perform and support the work.
• Lead complex, cross-functional improvement initiatives from charter through implementation and transition to process ownership.
• Coordinate plans, milestones, resources, communications, risks, dependencies, and adoption strategies across teams and locations.
• Apply change management practices to support alignment, training, adoption, and sustained behavior change.
• Establish governance and sustainment practices that help improvements deliver lasting results.
• Coach process owners, project teams, and other improvement professionals in continuous improvement methods.
• Communicate results, lessons learned, and scalable solutions to leaders and stakeholders across Interstates.
Essential Skills & Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, business, operations, organizational development, supply chain, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Typically, seven or more years of experience in process engineering, operational excellence, business process management, continuous improvement, organizational transformation, or project management.
Required Experience and Skills:
• Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives across departments, business units, or locations.
• Experience developing enterprise processes, operating standards, governance models, and performance measurement approaches.
• Ability to translate strategic objectives into practical processes, implementation plans, and measurable outcomes.
• Experience facilitating executive and cross-functional discussions and influencing without direct authority.
• Experience leading organizational change, stakeholder adoption, and process implementation.
• Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to process improvement professionals.
• Strong analytical thinking, root-cause analysis, problem-solving, facilitation, and communication skills.
• Ability to communicate insights clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Proficiency with process mapping, process architecture, data analysis, project management, and presentation tools.
Certifications and Preferred Skills:
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt required, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent applied experience preferred.
• Experience with process automation, workflow platforms, business intelligence, or digital process enablement preferred.
• Strong understanding of value-stream analysis, standard work, visual management, error-proofing, and statistical process control.
• Advanced education or certification in process improvement, operations, change management, or a related discipline preferred.
Location: This role will be based out of Sioux Center IA, Sioux Falls SD, or Omaha NE office locations.
Travel: Travel is expected up to 10-20% for this role, including visits to Interstates offices, manufacturing shops, project sites, and other locations as needed.
