Reporting directly to the senior engineering leadership team, the Senior Manager, Engineering will lead a multi-team engineering organization responsible for one of our core product or platform areas. You will own the strategy, execution, technical direction, and people development for your organization — partnering with senior leaders across Product, Design, Architecture, and Customer Success to deliver outcomes that move the business.
This is a senior leadership role for someone who has successfully scaled engineering teams, managed managers (or is ready to), and operated at the intersection of strategy and execution. You will be a force multiplier — building leaders, raising the engineering bar, and shaping the long-term technical and organizational direction of the area you own.
HOW WE’LL BE WINNING TOGETHER DAY TO DAY
- Lead and grow an engineering organization of 15–30 engineers, including Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, and senior individual contributors.
- Develop the next generation of engineering leaders through coaching, structured feedback, and stretch opportunities.
- Own org design, headcount planning, performance calibration, and succession planning for your area.
- Drive a high-performance, inclusive culture grounded in ownership, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Translate company and product strategy into a multi-quarter engineering roadmap with clear outcomes, milestones, and trade-offs.
- Drive predictable, high-quality delivery across multiple teams; remove cross-team and cross-functional blockers proactively.
- Establish the operating cadence (planning, reviews, retrospectives, metrics) for your org and continuously improve it.
- Own and report on engineering KPIs — delivery, quality, reliability, security, productivity, and customer impact — to senior leadership.
- Set the technical vision and architecture direction for your area in partnership with senior engineers and architects.
- Lead major technical initiatives — re-platforming, scalability, performance, AI/ML adoption, modernization — and ensure they deliver measurable business value.
- Champion engineering excellence: design reviews, code quality, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, security, and operational maturity.
- Lead incident response, drive blameless post-mortems, and ensure systemic improvements are implemented.
- Partner with Product, Design, Architecture, DevOps, Security, and Customer Success leaders to align on outcomes and trade-offs.
- Communicate with executive stakeholders — including the CTO, VP Engineering, and Product leadership — on strategy, progress, risks, and investment decisions.
- Represent engineering in customer conversations, RFPs, and strategic partnership discussions when needed.
- Influence and contribute to org-wide engineering strategy, hiring, technical standards, and process maturity.
WE SHOULD TALK IF THIS SOUNDS LIKE YOU
- 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, with 5+ years in engineering management — including experience managing senior ICs and/or other managers.
- Proven track record of leading multi-team organizations and delivering complex, high-impact products or platforms at scale.
- Deep technical foundation in modern distributed systems — microservices, REST/event-driven APIs, SQL/NoSQL data stores, cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP), and modern DevOps practices.
- Strong product sense and the ability to partner with Product Management on strategy, prioritization, and roadmap trade-offs.
- Demonstrated success in scaling teams, growing leaders, and improving engineering culture and operating maturity.
- Excellent executive communication, stakeholder management, and influence skills.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience leading engineering for SaaS, e-commerce, master data management (MDM), product information management (PIM), syndication, or analytics platforms (preferred but not required).
- Experience integrating AI / ML capabilities into customer-facing products at scale (preferred but not required).
- Experience with multi-region, high-availability systems and modern data platforms (streaming, lakehouse, real-time analytics) (preferred but not required).
- Experience leading globally distributed teams across multiple time zones (preferred but not required).
- Background managing through M&A integration, re-platforming, or major architectural transitions (preferred but not required).
