GTM Engineer - Marketing @ Clay
We're looking for someone to focus on elevating our top-of-funnel workflows; building automations that generate demand, qualify it faster, and surface which accounts are actually in-market. You'll sit at the intersection of GTM Engineering and the Marketing org, partnering closely with our Demand Gen, Lifecycle, and SDR teams to turn prospect and account data into proactive, measurable action. Strong candidates will be builders with a strong understanding of the marketing org motion: how demand gen, lifecycle, campaign, and SDR teams operate and what data they need to be effective. You will operate with high agency but ground yourself in what your stakeholders need to be successful.
What You'll Do
Build and own top-of-funnel workflow automations like lead and account scoring, intent and buying-signal detection, inbound enrichment and routing, speed-to-lead triggers, and proactive outbound plays off marketing signal
Partner closely with Demand Gen, Lifecycle Marketing, and SDR leadership to translate business needs into automation requirements and iterate based on feedback
Own the instrumentation behind MQL definitions and the marketing funnel; build the insight layer that answers what converts, where leads stall, which sources and campaigns produce real pipeline, and whether our qualification criteria still hold
Build the connective tissue between Marketing and SDRs; lead lifecycle and handoff logic, routing and assignment rules, follow-up SLAs, and the feedback loop that tells marketing which leads were actually worth working
Build tooling that surfaces the right account and prospect context for SDRs at the right moment; before first touch, during inbound follow-up, and ahead of campaign and event pushes
Push the limits of Clay and extend our platform into new use cases, feed our product team innovative ideas, dogfood new features and; act as a practitioner evangelist of Clay infrastructure and GTM Engineering
Partner deeply with GTM leaders and frontline teams to understand how our demand motion works today and where it breaks
Own projects end-to-end, from discovery and prototyping through rollout, adoption, and iteration; identify opportunities to automate, augment, or redesign workflows using AI, data, and better systems design
Design systems that improve speed, visibility, data quality, and execution across the funnel; connect systems through APIs, webhooks, integrations, and automation layers so information moves cleanly across the stack
Measure performance, adoption, and business impact of what you build, then improve it over time
Act as an internal thought partner on the future of AI-native GTM systems
What You’ll Bring
At least 6-10 years working in a combination of Marketing Ops, RevOps, GTM Engineering or other similar applied technical discipline
At least 3 years in Marketing Ops/Demand Gen Ops or GTM Engineering or equivalent
Experience building, developing or connecting core systems like Salesforce and adjacent GTM systems including hands on experience with marketing automation and inbound tooling such as HubSpot, Marketo, Customer.io, or Braze, and intent/enrichment layers such as 6sense, Demandbase, Clearbit, or Common Room
Fluency with the mechanics of the marketing funnel; lead lifecycle design, scoring models, routing logic, attribution, deliverability and database health, and funnel conversion and velocity metrics
Proven ability to build and problem solve with methods incorporating Python, JavaScript, SQL, or TypeScript; we pull our own data on this team
Track record of deploying and building AI-powered internal tools, automations, or agentic workflows
Experience using data warehouses, BI tools, or event-driven systems
Executive presence -- you communicate concisely and confidently even about technical topics with non technical people while simultaneously communicating business requirements to technical audiences
Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguous and fluid hypergrowth environments -- you not only embrace change but drive it
Experience building in Clay as a primary workflow or enrichment layer is not required but is highly preferred (successful candidates with no experience in Clay will show increasing proficiency throughout the interview process)
Bonus points for experience in analytics engineering, data science and /or programming languages
