About Us
Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data.

About the Role
Fivetran is building data pipelines to power the modern data stack for thousands of companies.
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Automations team, a growing engineering team focused on building internal automations, tools, and systems that make Fivetran engineers more productive and effective.
The team operates at the intersection of software engineering, developer productivity, and automation. It identifies repetitive or inefficient workflows, builds solutions to improve them, and develops internal tools used across Engineering and other parts of Fivetran. The work can range from small, high-leverage automations to larger internal platforms and services.
As the Engineering Manager, you’ll lead and develop the team while helping define Fivetran’s strategy for internal automation and engineering tooling. You’ll work closely with engineers and stakeholders across the company to identify opportunities, prioritize investments, and turn ideas into reliable, scalable solutions.
This is a technical leadership role. You’ll be expected to understand the architecture and implementation of the systems your team owns, participate in technical and architectural decisions, and help maintain a high engineering bar. If you enjoy staying hands-on, you’ll also have the flexibility to contribute directly to design, code, prototypes, and tooling where it creates the most value.
You’ll join a fast-moving and growing team with significant opportunity to shape how it operates, what it builds, and how automation is used across Fivetran.
This is a full-time position based out of our Novi Sad office in Serbia.
Technologies You’ll Use
- TypeScript, Python, Java
- Postgres, BigQuery, Datastore
- Git, Github, Buildkite
- GCP, AWS
- AI development tools
What You’ll Do
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers building internal automation and developer tooling.
- Shape and drive the strategy and roadmap for engineering automation and internal tools, focusing on high-impact opportunities that improve developer productivity and effectiveness.
- Partner with engineers, engineering leaders, and other stakeholders to understand pain points, prioritize opportunities, and turn them into pragmatic solutions.
- Provide technical leadership through architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, and guidance on engineering quality and system health.
- Own the team’s execution and delivery, balancing speed with reliability, maintainability, and long-term technical quality.
- Build a strong, autonomous team by creating clarity, delegating effectively, and growing technical leadership within the team.
- Contribute hands-on to design, prototyping, coding, or debugging when it is useful and where you want to stay involved.
Skills We’re Looking For
- Experience leading and developing software engineers, with demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, provide feedback, and help engineers grow their impact and careers.
- Strong software engineering background and enough technical depth to guilde designs and code, understand implementation trade-offs, troubleshoot complex systems, and guide technical decisions.
- Experience delivering software projects end to end, from identifying and refining a problem through planning, implementation, rollout, and ongoing operation.
- Ability to translate broad or ambiguous problems into clear priorities and plans, making pragmatic decisions when requirements or outcomes are not fully defined.
- Strong product and customer mindset for internal tooling, with the ability to understand engineers’ workflows, identify high-leverage opportunities, and build solutions that teams genuinely want to use.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working across engineering teams and with stakeholders who may have different priorities and needs.
- Ability to build trust and ownership within a team, delegate effectively, resolve conflicts, and create an environment of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Interest in automation, developer productivity, and engineering effectiveness, with curiosity about how new technologies can improve software development and operational workflows.
Bonus Skills
- Experience building developer productivity platforms, internal developer tools, engineering infrastructure, or workflow automation.
- Experience measuring developer productivity, engineering effectiveness, or the business impact of internal tooling.
- Experience building solutions using LLMs, AI agents, or agentic workflows.
