80 ptsJoin the Redwire Space team in developing and fielding end-to-end innovative mission critical space system solutions for next generation space architecture. At Redwire, you will work closely with customers from concept development through mission operations to ensure mission success.
Redwire’s Luxembourg City facility is Made for the Mission, designing and developing advanced robotic arms that enable critical operations for orbital and free-flying spacecraft. These robotic systems support a wide range of mission needs, including satellite servicing, refuelling, payload management, and in-space manufacturing. The facility’s engineering expertise also drives innovation in debris capture and other emerging on-orbit servicing applications. Through this work, the Luxembourg team is helping build the robotic infrastructure essential for a more sustainable and capable space economy.
Redwire Space Luxembourg, seeks a results-driven Computer Vision & Autonomy Engineer to contribute to the development of cutting-edge robotic systems. We are looking for a Space Computer Vision & Autonomy Engineer to develop sensing and navigation solutions for European space and defence programmes, including projects with ESA and EDA. You will work primarily on relative visual and multi-modal navigation for rendezvous and proximity operations, as well as space-based object detection and tracking for Space Situational Awareness.
This is a hands-on, mid-level position for a strong computer vision engineer who wants to own a subsystem from algorithm development through hardware integration and verification. The role offers a path toward senior engineering and technical leadership. Your expertise will drive mission success from initial development through on-orbit validation.
Responsibilities:
• Develop computer vision algorithms for relative navigation, pose estimation, object detection, segmentation, and tracking.
• Combine classical computer vision, multi-view geometry, neural networks, and state-estimation methods.
• Build visual simulations and synthetic-data pipelines for algorithm development and testing.
• Select cameras, lenses, sensors, and embedded compute platforms.
• Integrate cameras and computer vision software with representative hardware and robotic RPOD testbeds.
• Develop laboratory test setups and conduct laboratory or field-test campaigns.
• Define performance metrics and own subsystem verification through model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, and processor-in-the-loop testing.
• Analyse requirements, define subsystem interfaces, and maintain traceability between requirements and tests.
• Contribute to data provenance and interoperability solutions for European space and defence applications.
• Present technical decisions and results to ESA, EDA, customers, partners, and subcontractors, with support from the wider team.
What we are looking for:
• A master’s degree or higher in aerospace engineering, computer science, mechatronics, robotics, or a related discipline.
• Relevant professional or applied research experience in computer vision, robotics, autonomous systems, or machine perception.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
• Strong experience with OpenCV and PyTorch.
• Strong understanding of classical computer vision and multi-view geometry.
• Practical experience with sensor calibration and pose estimation.
• Demonstrable experience in object detection, segmentation, or tracking.
• Experience with at least one visual simulator or synthetic-data generation environment.
• Good understanding of Kalman filtering or nonlinear state estimation.
• Experience selecting imaging hardware and integrating cameras with embedded compute platforms.
• Experience developing laboratory test setups and evaluating algorithms on representative hardware.
• A practical approach to writing maintainable, tested, and well-documented software.
• Ability to communicate technical decisions, limitations, and results clearly.
Desired Skills:
• Visual odometry, SLAM, or sensor fusion
• Relative visual navigation or RPOD
• Space-based SSA or orbital simulation
• ROS or ROS 2
• Gazebo, Isaac Sim, Omniverse, Unreal Engine, Blender, or equivalent simulation tools
• Domain adaptation between synthetic and real imagery
• ONNX, TensorRT, CUDA, or embedded AI deployment
• Transformers or vision-language models
• Embedded Linux or real-time systems
• Multi-sensor systems or alternative sensing modalities
• ESA, EDA, ECSS, or formal requirements-engineering experience
• Data provenance, defence interoperability, or data standards
