From Fivetran’s founding until now, our mission has remained the same: to make access to data as simple and reliable as electricity. With Fivetran, customer data arrives in their warehouses, canonical and ready to query, with no engineering or maintenance required. We’re proud that more organizations continue to leverage our technology every day to become truly data-driven.

About Us

Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data. Together, we’re delivering the data infrastructure layer that helps organizations move, transform, and trust their data — from the moment data moves, through every transformation, to the context teams and AI systems rely on. Fivetran helps organizations automate data movement across the systems, clouds, engines, and tools they rely on. dbt Labs pioneered analytics engineering, helping teams transform data into reliable, governed insights. Together, we support thousands of organizations as they build a trusted foundation for analytics, AI, and better business decisions. As we bring our teams and technology together, we’re building on the strengths of both companies while continuing to deliver the products and experiences our customers know and trust. It’s an exciting time to join us: we’re creating a company with the scale, talent, and technology to help more organizations put their data to work with greater speed, confidence, and impact. During this transition period, you may see references to both Fivetran and dbt Labs throughout our recruiting process as we integrate our teams, systems, and career sites.

About the Role

You'll spend much of your time helping managers tackle the things that make leading people hard: giving clear feedback, addressing performance early, navigating change, building effective teams, and making good decisions when the answer isn't obvious. We don't expect you to have a playbook for everything. We do expect you to be curious, use good judgment, ask the right questions, and be comfortable forming a point of view. We're looking for a People Business Partner to join our Regional HRBP team and support managers across North America. Our Regional HRBP model is new, so you'll also help us build it. You'll work closely with Functional HRBPs and partners across the People team, learning from what you see on the ground and helping us create better, simpler ways of working as we grow. You'll report to the Director, Regional HR Business Partners.

What You’ll Do

  • Coach managers. Help managers work through performance, feedback, development, conflict, team dynamics, and difficult people decisions. The goal isn't to solve everything for them, it's to help them become better managers.
  • Get underneath the problem. What first lands as a performance issue might actually be unclear expectations, a struggling manager, a team dynamic, or something else entirely. You'll ask good questions, understand the context, and help determine what needs to happen next.
  • Handle complex people matters. You'll lead performance and employee relations work across North America, balancing good judgment, employee experience, business needs, consistency, and risk. You'll know what you can handle yourself and when to bring in Legal or another People partner.
  • Help teams perform better. You'll work with managers on team health, engagement, talent, performance, and change using both what you're hearing and what the data tells us.
  • Spot patterns. We don't want to solve the same problem five times without asking why it keeps happening. You'll connect dots across teams, use data where it helps, and bring emerging themes and risks to the right people.
  • Work closely with Functional HRBPs. They'll bring the broader functional and leadership context; you'll bring what you're seeing with managers, employees, and teams across the region. You'll work together without duplicating each other's roles.
  • Help us build. This is a new model and not everything will be perfectly defined on day one. You'll help us figure out what works, challenge what doesn't, and build approaches we can scale.
  • Look for a better way. We're interested in where technology, automation, and AI can remove repetitive work or help us make better decisions. You don't need to be an AI expert—we do want you to be curious and willing to experiment.

Skills We’re Looking For

  • You've worked as a People/HR Business Partner, or in a role where you've coached managers and dealt with meaningful people and team challenges.
  • You have strong working knowledge of US employment practices. Experience supporting employees across multiple US states is strongly preferred; broader North American experience is a plus.
  • You're a strong manager coach. You can be supportive without simply agreeing, and you're comfortable saying the thing that needs to be said.
  • You have good judgment. When something messy lands, you can work out what matters, what the risks are, and what you'd recommend doing.
  • You're agile. Priorities change, organizations change, and sometimes the plan changes. You can adjust quickly and keep moving.
  • You're comfortable with ambiguity. You don't need every process or boundary defined before you can make progress.
  • You're interested in the business behind the people question. You want to understand what a team is trying to accomplish before deciding what good People support looks like.
  • You can work independently without operating in a silo. You know when to make the call, when to ask for another perspective, and when something needs to be escalated.
  • You notice patterns. You're interested not only in solving today's issue but in understanding why it's happening and whether we're seeing it elsewhere.
  • You're comfortable working across teams, functions, and time zones in a distributed company.

Bonus Skills

You don't need all of these, but we'd be particularly interested if:

  • You enjoy working with data and have used engagement, performance, attrition, workforce, or other People data to investigate a problem or challenge an assumption.
  • You've worked with or are interested in People analytics or visualization tools. You don't need to be an analyst—we care more about whether you're curious enough to ask the next question.
  • You're interested in AI and how it could change the way managers and People teams work.
  • You've helped build or improve something rather than only operating within an established model.
  • You've worked through a merger, integration, rapid growth, or significant organizational change.

Tech & Remote Glossary

Stop getting lost in interviews and job descriptions

The job market, especially within tech and global companies, has developed its own dialect. Not understanding these acronyms can make you lose valuable opportunities or poorly negotiate your contract. To end this problem, we created the Definitive Glossary for the Remote Professional.

🏢 Work Models & Routine

Async (Asynchronous Work)
A communication model where responses don't need to be immediate. Instead of back-to-back meetings, the team relies on well-structured documents, threads, and messages. It's the gold standard for global companies spanning multiple time zones.
Sync (Synchronous Work)
The opposite of Async. It requires the team to be online and available at the same time for meetings, live chats, and real-time collaboration.
Daily / Stand-up
A quick daily meeting (usually 15 minutes) common in Agile (Scrum) methodologies. The team answers three questions: What did I do yesterday? What will I do today? Are there any blockers?
All-Hands / Town Hall
A company-wide meeting involving all employees. Usually led by the founders (C-Levels) to present results, new goals, and answer team questions.
1:1 (One-on-One)
A recurring individual meeting between a professional and their direct manager. It is used for career alignment, feedback, and problem-solving, not just for project status updates.

💰 Contracts, Benefits & Compensation

PTO (Paid Time Off)
Instead of strict, categorized leave policies, modern US companies usually offer a flexible pool of days (e.g., 20 days of PTO, or even "Unlimited PTO") that you can use for vacations, sick days, or personal matters, while receiving your regular compensation.
Equity / Stock Options
Company ownership. The startup offers you the right to buy shares at a heavily discounted strike price in the future. If the company grows, goes public, or is acquired, these shares can be highly lucrative.
Vesting (Vesting Schedule)
The rule that controls your Equity. It usually lasts 4 years. You don't get all the shares on day one; you "earn" them gradually as you stay with the company. A "1-year Cliff" means you must stay for at least one year to receive your first batch of shares.
RSUs (Restricted Stock Units)
Unlike Stock Options (where you have the right to buy the stock), RSUs are actual shares the company grants you as a bonus or part of your compensation package, following a strict Vesting schedule.
Independent Contractor (1099 / B2B)
The most common international hiring model for global talent working for US companies. You act as a service provider (business-to-business), receiving the gross salary (often six-figure compensation) without standard local payroll tax deductions at the source.

🤖 Recruitment & Hiring Process

ATS (Applicant Tracking System)
The "robot" that reads your resume. Software like Greenhouse, Ashby, and Workday are used to filter candidates by keywords before a human even looks at the document. (Pro tip: this is why your resume must be clean, semantic, and have the right keywords).
JD (Job Description)
The document that lists the responsibilities, technical requirements, and benefits of the open position.
Cultural Fit
The interview stage that evaluates if your core values, communication style, and worldview align with the company's culture. This is the ultimate test of your Soft Skills.
Onboarding
The integration process. It's the period of your first few weeks at the company, where you get your access credentials, learn about the culture, study the internal documentation, and understand how the product works.

🚀 How to use this to your advantage?

The secret isn't just knowing what these acronyms mean, but using them actively. If during an interview for a premium tech role you ask, "How does your PTO policy and Vesting schedule work?", the recruiter will immediately perceive you as a high-level professional, familiar with the global market standards.

The remote job market requires preparation. And having the right vocabulary is the first big step to securing six-figure proposals and standing out among thousands of applicants.

The Data Market Explosion

A decade ago, oil was considered the world's most valuable resource; today, that title indisputably belongs to data. However, raw data without interpretation is just noise. It is exactly at this turning point that the Business Intelligence (BI) market exploded in demand and financial valuation.

Companies of all sizes, from agile startups to global unicorns, have realized they can no longer base their decisions on guesswork. The BI professional has become the architect of financial and operational predictability. According to Gartner, in its annual reports on the Magic Quadrant for Analytics and BI, adopting business intelligence platforms is no longer a competitive advantage, but a matter of corporate survival.

The Required Profile: Way Beyond the Dashboard

The biggest mistake professionals make when trying to transition into Business Intelligence is believing the job comes down to creating pretty visual panels (Dashboards). Today's market, especially international companies paying six-figure salaries, requires a deep analytical mindset combined with solid technical skills.

Tech Recruiters are configuring their ATS systems (like Greenhouse and Ashby) to filter candidates who master the following verticals:

  • Data Modeling and ETL: The ability to Extract, Transform, and Load data from multiple sources into a Data Warehouse or Data Lake.
  • Query Languages: Advanced proficiency in SQL remains the backbone of any data operation.
  • Advanced Visualization: Tools like Microsoft Power BI (with deep knowledge in DAX), Tableau, and Looker are mandatory requirements.
  • Critical Thinking & Business Acumen: As highlighted by the Harvard Business Review, data professionals must translate technical complexity into clear answers for C-Level executives.

Compensation and the Global Job Route (US Remote)

The Business Intelligence market is perfectly adaptable to the Remote Worldwide model. Because the work essentially deals with cloud infrastructure and logical analysis, geographical barriers have been completely eliminated.

"The ability to analyze massive volumes of data and extract actionable insights is the most valued skill in the new digital economy. The global market is literally buying intelligence."

For global professionals, this represents a golden opportunity. North American and European startups are actively seeking Senior BI talent to work remotely, offering compensation in strong currencies (USD and EUR) through B2B contracts. Base salaries that easily surpass the $80,000 to $120,000+ range (six-figure compensation) are a common reality for Mid-level and Senior analysts who have fluent English and a robust analytical portfolio.

How to Stand Out in the Technical Interview

To break through the technical interview barrier for premium BI positions, candidates must prepare a problem-oriented portfolio. Instead of presenting a generic sales dashboard, showcase a documented case study. Show the data source, how the SQL was structured for cleansing, which predictive or statistical models were applied, and, most importantly, what was the financial impact (ROI) of that analysis.
